The UC Department of Plant Sciences has an opening for a technical research assistant to participate in team-coordinated laboratory studies, field research trial evaluations, and environmental surveys to address key needs in preharvest and postharvest microbial food safety of diverse fruits and vegetables. The employee will report to senior technical staff within team projects related to conducting hazard analysis, risk assessment, and quantifying risk potential of production inputs and postharvest management for both conventional and organic systems. This position will conduct supervised, general and advanced microbiological safety research on fresh produce. Activities may include providing assistance in the development of extension informational materials and outreach training thorough lab-website management and local workshops. Requirements include a Bachelor-level degree and one year laboratory assistance or research experience in a field related to microbiology, including food science and microbiology. Preferential consideration will be given to applicants with lab and greenhouse and/or field research experience in agricultural or soil sciences. This position requires periodic travel within California and may include occasional overnight or multiple day length trips to execute field research. Short-Term Emergency, Seasonal, Per Diem, Farm Workers
The National Clonal Germplasm Repository just west of the UC Davis main campus has an opening for three fulltime positions from June 1, 2010 thru August 31, 2010. Must have own transportation. Per Diem Seasonal Farm Workers perform unskilled agricultural tasks in and around research plots in fields, orchards, nurseries, green houses and range land. Qualifications include ability to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder, work outdoors in prevailing weather conditions of a California summer, work well with others and follow instructions. Post Doctoral Fellow Position
A post doctoral fellow position is available with the Potato Breeding and Selection Program at the San Luis Valley Research Center in Center, Colorado. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in horticulture or agronomy, or other closely related plant science discipline. Experience in plant breeding is highly desirable. Applications will be considered until the position is filled; however, applicants should submit applications by May 21, 2010 for full consideration. Interested candidates should submit a letter of application which addresses training and experience related to position requirements, a resume (including publications), university transcripts, other supporting materials and at least three letters of reference to: Dr. David G.
