Postdoctoral Fellow in Stem Cell Tissue Engineering

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Ngan F Huang, Ph.D., Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University, and Principal Investigator in the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. We are interested in studying the role of cell-biomaterial interactions that 1) mediate differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells into cardiovascular lineages, and 2) biomaterials that mediate transdifferentiation of somatic cells into cardiovascular lineage. In particular, we are interested in studying the role of spatial patterning, substrate rigidity, and ligand binding density in regulating these processes. Using the fundamental insights gained from these studies, we hope to engineer vascular conduits and vascularized tissue constructs for transplantation purposes. We are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral candidates with a PhD in bioengineering or other engineering discipline, with deep knowledge in stem cell and molecular biology. Candidates with a molecular biology degree with experience in bioengineering applications may also be considered. The successful candidate should have a good publication record, be experienced in stem cell culture and differentiation methods, and have good scientific communication skills. Experience with soft lithography, hydrogel fabrication, and small animal surgery a plus. Interested applicants should send a CV and cover letter outlining research experience and interests to Dr. Huang at
