The International Field Epidemiology Training Program – Thailand would like to remind you for the deadline of the training course as below.

The Field Epidemiology Training Program-Thailand (FETP-Thailand) was established in 1980 with a collaborative effort of the Thai Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is the first field-based epidemiology training outside the America Continent which was modeled after the Epidemic Intelligence Service in the USA. The term “FETP” has been recognized as the applied epidemiology training that directly linked to public health services.Over 30 years,  FETP – Thailand is the key player in Thailand to responses and solve major health problems of the country. In the area of public health emergencies, FETP trainees and alumni are the front liners in the field.

14th Batch of International Field Epidemiology Training Program – Thailand

WHEN 2 years program:  17 May 2011 to 31 May 2013

–          Train in Thailand for 6 months in 5 visits (return to Thailand every six months)

–          Work in participant’s country for 18 months.

WHERE Main location: FETP, Bureau of Epidemiology, Ministry of Health, Thailand

  • Field study:  Many provinces in Thailand
  • Cross border between Thailand-Malaysia
WHY With increasing globalization, country and regional boundaries were no barriers to the movement of disease outbreaks. Only a professional epidemiological and surveillance system could support an efficient disease control system.

Public  Health in every country is in a great needs of people who can

  • Obtain epidemiologic skills to identify problems making recommendations for priority health condition
  • Effectively manage and response to outbreak and other urgent health events
  • Enhance the current surveillance systdem
  • Become trainers of field epidemiology
  • Enhance cross-border health network.

International FETP Training for Trainer (IFETP Training for Trainer)

WHEN

6 months training course

(4 months in Thailand and 2 months in applicant’s country)

WHY Since the urgency of flu-pandemic preparedness and there are effort from various organization to establish FETP in Asia, this is a perfect time to expand training capacity for potential countries in this region. The field training is impossibly succeeded without sufficient trainers.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
  • Medical doctor, Veterinarian, health officer, etc.
  • Responsible for prevention and control diseases
  • Working in Ministry of Health or organization which related to health issues
  • Excellent in English, English test score are preferable.

FELLOWSHIP

In this year, the US.CDC agreed to support funding for 2 fellows from Asian countries. The fund will cover for tuition fee, travel and per diem which include accommodation and meals (USD.40/day) and health insurance
